New Faculty: Joshua Grossman, Acting Assistant Teaching Professor
Dr. Joshua Grossman will join the UC Berkeley Department of Statistics as an Acting Assistant Teaching Professor in the fall of 2024. Grossman is a 2024 alum of Stanford, where he earned his Ph.D. in Management Science and Engineering (MS&E), advised by Sharad Goel. He graduated magna cum laude from Harvard, majoring in Neurobiology and minoring in Statistics.
"I'm really excited to contribute to UC Berkeley's vision of expanding access to high-quality statistics and data science education," said Grossman.
Grossman's research focuses on algorithmic fairness, decision-making, and data science. Beyond expanding access to statistics and data science education, he is interested in studying how racial disparate impact is displayed in judicial decisions and college admissions.
"Welcome, Joshua! Berkeley Statistics is excited to have you join us," said Chair Haiyan Huang.
He has won the Stanford Centennial TA Award, Nakagawa Fellowship, Department Course Assistant Award, NSF Graduate Research Fellowship, Phi Beta Kappa, and Harvard College Scholar award.
Before joining Berkeley Statistics, Grossman had stops at Recidiviz, a criminal justice technology nonprofit, and IXL Learning, an education technology company.
