In 2006, my study of the newly-minted scoring system used in
international figure skating competitions was based entirely on
probabilities. As of January, 2010, such an analysis is no longer
possible, opening the door for the (unexpected) use of statistics in
studying the scoring system. In this admittedly unusual example,
randomization is undesirable, the good-old "iid" assumption...
