Estimating the Tree of Life takes two steps: 1) trees are estimated on many genes; 2) the gene trees are combined into a tree on all the taxa. I present two recent algorithms. We prove theorems that explain why we obtain excellent results. We provide experimental evidence that SuperFine produces dramatically more accurate supertrees than current supertree methods, and does so extremely quickly.
