Prof. Terry Speed wins Australian Museum Eureka Prize for Leadership in Science
Professor Terry Speed wins the 2014 Australian Museum Eureka Prize.
Professor Terry Speed has played a major role in building Australia’s capacity in bioinformatics research through outstanding leadership for science and mentoring in the fields of mathematics, statistics and genetics. His passion for advocating interdisciplinary collaboration and fostering diversity makes him one of the most respected leaders in science worldwide.
Professor Terry Speed established the Walter + Eliza Hall institute’s Bioinformatics division, applying statistical tools to the analysis of biological data. Professor Speed’s work has been applied to a variety of biological studies, from analyzing the genes involved in cancer growth to measuring genetic diversity in malaria parasites.
