Capstone Lecturer: Department of Statistics

The Department of Statistics at UC Berkeley invites applications for a pool of qualified temporary instructors to teach the capstone course in the Berkeley Statistics Masters Program should an opening arise. This position is 33% time. Screening of applicants is ongoing and will continue as needed. The number of positions varies from semester to semester, depending upon the needs of the Department.

Teaching Responsibilities:
We are seeking outstanding lecturers who can teach STAT 222 Masters of Statistics Capstone Project (see http://guide.berkeley.edu/courses/stat/ for the course description):

General Duties:
Teaching responsibilities include advising teams of students working on substantial data analysis projects, including written, poster, and oral presentations. Additionally, general duties include holding office hours, curating real-world data for cases, teaching advanced statistical methods, grading papers, posters, and presentations, assignments, and supervising teaching assistants. Other duties may be assigned by the Chair as necessary.

Minimum Qualifications:
Advanced degree or enrolled in an advanced degree program

Additional qualification: PhD (or equivalent international degree).

Preferred Qualifications:
PhD in Statistics, Applied Mathematics, or related field. Documented experience in teaching Statistics or a related field at the college level. A minimum of 5 years of work experience in industry, government, research laboratory, or equivalent using statistical methods to analyze data.

Salary:
Salary commensurate with experience. Some credit given to prior college-level teaching experience (not including graduate student or summer session teaching).
