POSITION DESCRIPTION
The Department of Statistics, in the College of Computing, Data Science, and Society (CDSS) at the University of California, Berkeley, currently seeks applicants with outstanding records in Statistics and Data Science for a position at the assistant, associate, or (full) professor rank. We are broadly interested in candidates working across all areas of statistics, their applications (such as to the biological, medical, physical, and social sciences), and adjacent areas (such as machine learning and data sciences).
Successful candidates for a position at the assistant professor rank are expected to have demonstrated research potential. Serious consideration will be given to the candidate’s potential for success in mentoring PhD students, record in teaching at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, potential for effective leadership, and professional service, including service promoting access and diversity in higher education and the academic profession.
Successful candidates for a position at the associate or (full) professor rank will preferably hold a tenured (or equivalent) faculty position at another institution. Associate or full professor applicants are expected to have an established research record. Serious consideration will be given to the candidate’s experience in mentoring PhD students, record in teaching at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, evidence of effective leadership, and professional service, including service promoting access to and diversity in higher education and the academic profession. Rank will be determined based on qualifications and experience.
The Berkeley Statistics Department is consistently ranked as a top program in Statistics nationally. Since the inception of the Department in 1955, graduates and faculty of Berkeley have shaped the foundations and applications of Statistics. Past faculty in the Berkeley Statistics Department include such luminaries as David Blackwell, Leo Breiman, David Freedman, Lucien Le Cam, Erich Lehmann, and Jerzy Neyman. Preferred qualifications
The successful candidate for an assistant professor position will preferably finish their PhD or equivalent degree no later than one year after the expected starting date of the appointment.
