I will talk about the quenched and the averaged (or annealed) large deviation rate functions for random walk in an i.i.d. random environment (RWRE). By Jensen’s inequality, the averaged rate function is less than or equal to the quenched rate function. It is easy to see that they are not identically equal everywhere.
