UC Berkeley Department of Statistics faculty members were widely recognized at the 2023 Joint Statistical Meeting in Toronto, ON.

• Distinguished Professor Bin Yu delivered the 2023 COPSS Distinguished Achievement Award and Lecture (DAAL) (formerly Fisher Lecture) on "Veridical Data Sciences towards Trustworthy AI." Yu's research focuses on practice, algorithm, and theory of statistical machine learning, interpretable machine learning, and causal inference. Her group is engaged in interdisciplinary research with scientists from genomics, neuroscience, and precision medicine.
• Professor Ryan Tibshirani was named the 2023 COPSS Presidents' Award winner, generally regarded as one of the highest honors in the field of statistics.
• Associate Professors Peng Ding and Avi Feller won the 2023 Emerging Leader Awards. The award recognizes early career statistical scientists who show evidence of and potential for leadership and who will help shape and strengthen the field.
