Postdoctoral Fellowship in Statistics / Computational Biology

Position: A full-time post-doctoral fellow in the research group of Elizabeth Purdom in the Department of Statistics at the University of California, Berkeley. The appointment can start any time after April 1st, 2022 and no later than July
31st, 2022, and is expected to last for at least two years, with annual renewal based on satisfactory performance and continued availability of funding.

Project and Duties
The primary focus of the post-doctoral fellow will be in developing methodological strategies for the analysis of single-cell mRNA data (scRNA) collected from patient cohorts, with the goal of understanding the effect of single-cell variability on patient health outcomes. Research related to the development and application of statistical methods for single-cell platforms and high-throughput genomic data more broadly will also be encouraged. The postdoctoral fellow will be expected to develop methodologies, critically evaluate their performance, and develop open-source software. There are no teaching duties.

Qualifications
We are seeking a candidate with a PhD at the time of appointment in Statistics, Biostatistics, Computer Science, Computational Biology, Data Science, or a closely related field. Experience in statistical computing in either python or R is essential. Candidates should ideally have significant previous exposure to the analysis of high-throughput biological data. Oral and written proficiency in English is expected.
